Content is king!

but i still think B&N would have to do a lot of work in order to build their content library to the level of someone like Amazon.

I think it is going to be interesting to see how Microsoft plays this relationship. and where they fit other products into the mix (like Skype)

I am not sure what Microsoft is pursuing from B&N deal. It is hard to believe it is Nook. There are already lots of Windows 8 tablets ready for release this year, from Samsung, Lenovo, and Nokia, etc. (http://www.techradar.com/news/mobile-computing/tablets/windows-8-tablets-what-you-need-to-know-916134) Why does Microsoft want another android based tablet like Nook?

Maybe the contents from B&N is what Microsoft wants, just my guess.

I can see a lot of upside in this in tying together Nook-Xbox-Windows8 for integrated content and applications.

Joao-Pierre,

I would not agree more. rich content is the key. I think the iPad is leading the way right now, but the Amazon is not far behind with all the content they have for the Fire.

I know the nook was popular early on, and a lot of people were hacking them to turn them into a full tablet running an older version of Android, but that seems to have lost some of its steam now that there are more Android tablets on the market.

While Nook is finding an audience, Barnes & Noble does have a fair share of catching up to do with Amazon when it comes to conent. Amazon is talking about making original TV shows for Amazon Prime Instant Video users. It might not be fair to compare that to what other e-book vendors provide but you can bet that will be aimed at Kindle users.

It seems that multimedia digital content is the big play for tablet devices especially when you consider how Apple has positioned the iPad for books, magazines, newspapers, and as a video player.

When I think of digital content B&N just doesnt come to mind. I think the partnership is a good one, but to be honest it seems that they might be too late to the party.

There's no way of knowing what Microsoft plans to do at this point--it hasn't said. So it may not even go the Windows 8 direction.

i guess it would be a good thing if accessing Xbox Live would give you the ability to watch TV and movies.

There could be some advantages with a Windows 8 based product, including better cloud integration and access to Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Xbox Live service. But I don't think most Nook fans would like MSFT to tinker with the product's software for reading books.
