Again, why GSA is willing to spend so much on this kind of new system. What's in their mind? It's tax payers' money.

These are the same people that brough you thousand dollar toilet seats and hundred dollar pencils. I think it will be good business for all involved.

The best thing to come from face-to-face meetings or conferences happen after the meeting or event - the value is in the relationships you forge. Once you meet someone in person, you can nurture it a lot easier virtually.

Some things are still best done face to face, But honestly, most meetings and conferences that require extended travel offer very little return on investment.

I've got to believe that videoconferencing and webinars is making a huge dent in travel budgets - in both the private and public sectors.

Those kinds of legal challenges lead me to believe the RFP was written in a way to favor Concur -and that makes me nervous.

Is it really cheaper for the Feds to use a thrid party company rather than create an internal travel system? I mean, think of the volume of all the agencies and departments combined.

And to expand on that point. you don't see the feds responding much to employee gripes either. Good to see at the least that GSA is trying to become more efficient.

Federal employees have frequently griped about their current travel booking systems. Customer satisfaction ratings in 2010 for the current systems ranged from 49.5 on a scale of zero to 100 for GovTrip, operated by Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, to 51.5 for E2 Solutions, operated by CWT Sato Travel. FedTraveler, from HP Enterprise Services LLC, scored 50.7.

The one thing that's intriguing about this deal is the fact that the feds are moving to a rather innovative system. You don't see that happen much at the fed level.

Re: legal challenges to the new contract

That's an ominous probability. More wasted tax dollars.
