Interesting, @Robert!  But given the corruption level at GSA, my due diligence brings me to the question, "Is Concur that good or is there political favoritism at play to land them such a juicy contract while banishing Carlson Wagonlit Travel?"

Perhaps what matters here is that Concur has booked the business. But just curious...

GSA deal sounds like a big win, coupled with an impressive growth rate for quite a while, I am surprised that this stock hasn't been more widely mentioned.

Need to dig more and deeper to get details.

Minvestor, You are right. It does seem odd that this stock has not been mentioned before. However they got the contract, the GSA is a big win. This type of service also seem the right fit for the cloud.

GSA's wasteful spending could be Concur's gain.

So we should invest in Concur to balance the tax dollars the GSA is likely to waste?

I like what Concur is doing, although I question the necessity of the GSA to spend so much for its services. Awful lot of travel expenses if you ask me.

Yes, I'd think the cost is too high. Also this kind of service hasn't been widely adopted yet. Can anyone tell me one of Concur's well known customers?

I really wonder why GSA is adopting this service and technology so quick.

Couple of things.

First:

Federal employees have frequently griped about their current travel booking systems. Customer satisfaction ratings in 2010 for the current systems ranged from 49.5 on a scale of zero to 100 for GovTrip, operated by Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, to 51.5 for E2 Solutions, operated by CWT Sato Travel. FedTraveler, from HP Enterprise Services LLC, scored 50.7.

Second:

The new contract was delayed by legal challenges from CWT Sato Travel. The company filed a claim with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in May 2011 following two protests with the Government Accountability Office. The company argued that GSA's solicitation for the new contract was ambiguous, contained overly restrictive provisions, improperly used Federal Acquisition Regulation policies and exposed contractors to excessive risks.

Although the judge agreed with some of the company's objections, GSA got a waiver to move forward with the contract.

CWT Sato Travel teamed with Northrop Grumman to bid on the new contract but lost to Concur. Combined, they currently serve about 75 percent of federal travelers.

CWT Sato Travel has requested a formal debriefing statement from GSA to understand the basis of the award.

And let me add a third. This could directly affect Concur's bottom line.

A GSA spokesperson admitted that transactions under the new system may decline as travel budgets are slashed.

Realistically, how much do you think travel will fall? It won't go away completely, but it could impact expectations for Concur.

You're right--I just looked it up. President Obama in November called on agencies to use travel sparingly, only when it requires workers to be away from their desks, such as for diplomatic missions and enforcement inspections.

Again, why GSA is willing to spend so much on this kind of new system. What's in their mind? It's tax payers' money.

Those kinds of legal challenges lead me to believe the RFP was written in a way to favor Concur -and that makes me nervous.

I've got to believe that videoconferencing and webinars is making a huge dent in travel budgets - in both the private and public sectors.

Some things are still best done face to face, But honestly, most meetings and conferences that require extended travel offer very little return on investment.

The best thing to come from face-to-face meetings or conferences happen after the meeting or event - the value is in the relationships you forge. Once you meet someone in person, you can nurture it a lot easier virtually.

The one thing that's intriguing about this deal is the fact that the feds are moving to a rather innovative system. You don't see that happen much at the fed level.

And to expand on that point. you don't see the feds responding much to employee gripes either. Good to see at the least that GSA is trying to become more efficient.

Is it really cheaper for the Feds to use a thrid party company rather than create an internal travel system? I mean, think of the volume of all the agencies and departments combined.

Don't really now how much stock to put into this deal, considering how GSA has looked the past few months.
