Hi JWill--
I know you will be seeing the change taking place in many businesses; social media is touching a lot of business functions now. The important thing to remember is the word, "social." Business is all about creating a two-way street to connect with people; no business function is one-sided anymore. Social media is a means to remove the barriers.
Thanks for reading.

It's refreshing to hear someone agree with a position I've been pushing for years! Social Media has the potential to connect with consumers across more than marketing channels. Maybe the real relevance of this new medium will be realized not in a marketing presentation but quite possibly in a customer relations/management strategy.
Hi "cat."
Thanks for your post. It amazes me that I still talk to companies and find social media is relegated to marketing. There are so many platforms and networks which make social media relevant for operations, finance and distribution. Certainly, they are not the sexy divisions, but these are the ones that help generate revenue.
Good point about the marketing teams taking credit; I have seen that several times, and have also seen people kicked to the curb when they f..k it up.
Thanks for reading; hope to make it worth your while in the future.
Many thanks--
Michael

I think a lot of companies like the idea of incorporating social media into their marketing. But many of them lack the understanding of it to pull it off successfully. They try to control something that is at its best when it goes viral.

Just a few years ago, corporations were scoffing at the idea of FB pages. Now look. Hard to find a company without one. But many of them are used poorly--they mirror the corporate website. They don't provide any good interaction or give the company a real voice with stakeholders.

Of course he's starting to feel like a loser. That's my take away from this post. You can accelerate fast with a controversial message, but you can burn out just as quickly--and drag down your whole organization.

I read his tour was bombing. People walking out of the show in the middle. He's starting to feel like a loser.
RE : What Charlie Sheen Can Teach Corporate America

He definitely can teach some lessons to corporate America. Over 2.3 million people have hopped on the Sheen Twitter train to Crazy Town, helping him set the Guinness World Record for fastest user to hit one million followers. From Target to McDonalds, even the Red Cross – big names are incorporating Sheen trends (#winning, #tigerblood) into their tweets to increase awareness of their own social presence and initiatives.
So many corporations are confused about social media and its value. They don’t truly understand its part of the overall marketing tool set they should be using. If more companies leveraged social media as part of an integrated tools set they would realize cost efficiencies and rapidly understand their clients and prospects real time rather than reacting.

Somebody tell Sony's crisis communications and PR firms to read this blog! Waiting a week to notify the world of the No. 2 data breach in history (perhaps No. 1 when it's all over)? Atrocious! Seize the disgrace by the horns, Sony, like Charlie would!
