I see the key to this partnership being location, and Akamai as a lot of them, they have servers all over the world that could really give this partnership an edge.

I agree with you 100% TelecomFreq. It will be interesting to see what impacts (if any) this partnership will have on the cloud industry. Akami has deep resources, if the cards are played right we could really see some disruption.

Wow, Wireshark sold to Riverbed, will they change product name? Such a great open source product. Didn't know there is Wireshark university for training. Will check it out. Thank Value Hiker for sharing with info.
Ashish:
Thanks for the comment. If you use Wireshark on daily base, I recommend you take a look at the training at Wireshark university offered by Laura Chappell. It is a great training and I enjoyed it a lot.
Hiker,
You are extremely accurate with your comments regarding Wireshark.
I frankly had no idea that Wireshark was acquired by Riverbed(inspite of using it for a long time).
It really is a phenomenal product(one of the most successful Open source products of all time).
As for actually buying Riverbed or Akamai now (as an Individual Investor) I would wait for the inevitable correction coming in after the end of QE2[Its coming in sooner than you think].
Regards
Ashish.

In the cloud area, I think you do see some game changing services in the SaaS cloud area. Services like salesforce.com, have changed the way sales organizations have done business.
I think that this trend is going to continue, you will see some big players snatch up the smaller companies that are willing to sell.
what i am really waiting for is a small cloud company that develops a service that really shakes things up, that game changer has not happened yet.

Many of the key cloud providers are still private companies. Several of the public ones have been recently purchased. The consolidation in the industry included:
CenturyLink purchased Savvis for $3.2B
Verizon bought Terremark for $1.4B
TimeWarner bought Navisite for $230M
I think there will be more consolidation activity here.
One company that is still independent is Rackspace (RAX). They have a good value proposition in that they are focused on customer service rather than technology.
Anybody else got any other good cloud plays?

This partnership is most defiantly an interesting one, and perhaps a dream come true for Riverbed. The resources of Akamai could make any cloud based company a power house.
