Thanks Papa Biotech. The Bio sector contiues to amaze. The AMGN move is particularly notably because I have been seeing it on the tape a lot lately after months of no movement whatseover.

I posted a CAUTION signal on the biotech sector last Friday as the ASCO meeting is a time to take profits. While there may be movers this week , biotech stocks are already up over 15% and many momentum hedge funds drive stocks up in anticiaption of ASCO.
Here is my post from Friday and Model Portfolio:
Raygent » ASCO Next Week: Rally Today
With respect to your question AMGN was on our buy list at $53 and has moved up over 10% recently but it is definitely a blue chip biotech that can be bought on weakness.
Our mid-cap index of 33 biopharmaceutical stocks is down 1.3% today.

Tokyogai,
Part of the spike in LinkedIn stock(post its IPO),is because of massive short-covering by the players you mention in your post.
The Value component in Social Networks is entirely speculative(as you again rightly point out).
But then LinkedIn was never a stock to be chased by Value Players. It was and still is a Momentum/Growth stock(for which Investors are ready and willing to pay double Digit Earnings multiples well in excess of the S&P Index).
Apple and Amazon come to mind of similar Growth stories.

Guys,
Just saw an interesting post talking about the reorganization of the Dow Jones Index.A Must read...
http://www.investorplace.com/41520/dow-jones-industrial-average-vz-csco-mrk-pfe-aapl-mon/
Just was struck by a couple of thoughts.
1)Who actually decides which companies stay as components of the Dow?
2)What about their actual weightage in the Index?
Its a well-known fact that when people are standing and shouting that the Dow makes new Highs or New Lows everyday;it does'nt mean that their portfolio(of selective stocks) is making New Highs/New Lows every single day.

Ashish.

Whilew linked in did double since its debut, I hear from several sources that all the smart money is shorting the stock to make a killing. I really do not see what would justify its valuation. I don't think it is a bubble, but I do think the value of "social networks" is highly speculative-- ie overvalued.

On LinkedIn, I know this is a social media play and social media is all the rage but what caused the high valuation here? What kind of comps were looked at for this?

I just can't take LinkedIn seriously, but am really excited about biotech!
I'm assuming that Amgen's European approval for Xgeva in for adult cancer patients is already reflected in the stock price. Do you think it's still a buy?
I'm also exited about researching Human Genome Sciences (HGSI) which has a lupus drug, Benlysta, and Acorda Therapeutics (ACOR), which has a new MS drug, Fampyra. Does anyone know anything about either one of those?

I can't really tell you what the stock will do, but it is certainly overpriced at this point. Like I said, there are usually opportunities to buy an IPO about 3-6 months after the offering when the insiders start to cash out. I can't see how the big insiders won't be sellers with the stock near $100 and a 20X sales multiple.
I'm definitely not a buyer at these levels.

Scott,
Thanks for the summary. After such a spectacular listing of LinkedIn do you think the stock will consolidate in coming days or you think it will head higher ?
