Tony,
Like the analysis.
Will you let the IU community know when you see the breakout happening?
Apple is insulated from the problems with the economy because their products are high-margin luxury items. Nokia is the phone-maker that should be worried about the global economy.
This story isn't new - iPhone is 3% of handset unit volume, 2x profit of RIM, Nokia, Sony combined:

And Apple's unit volumes have done nothing but grow since this report.

you bring up a good point, but i still think the team is in place that made all of the apple innovations possible.
if you are right though, then we might see an exodus of talent from Apple, and depending on who picks them up we might see a new market leader....

I too had a Nokia phone and a Dell computer and I started using an Apple Iphone and a HP computer with Windows. I'm yet to make the shift to a Mac, but it is a distinct possibility. You and I are not the only people who would have made this change and I agree that Apple has opened a whole new way of dealing with everyday life and work and opened up so many possibilities with the Iphone. I have to be honest when I say the phone has more facilities than I had initially been aware of and every day I am finding out more. I have even upgraded to a newer version along the way. If they continue to give customers even more than they expect Apple is sure keep growing.

Let me take a little opposite view related to Steve Jobs. In the past when Jobs was not managing Apple, Apple tended to drift off their strategy. So, I think the question is how much of Apple is having Jobs at the helm? Who would take over if he was not there?

You have a good point there. Even if Jobs is no longer there the team he hired would remain and if what they have done so far is taken as an example they are sure to have the know how to continue with the path that Apple has taken. I think by now it is important for Apple to promote that team including a good second in command while Jobs is still there to make people more aware of who is there and what their capabilities are.
I liked your analysis Tony Kau and I agree with you that it is better to wait till an upward momentum is established.

Good analysis. Just as an example, in the past I had a Nokia phone and Dell computer with a Microsoft Operating System. After having some ongoing technical problems with both of these, I decided to buy an Apple IPhone and Apple MAC Pro computer. Both were easy to set up and use. After my purchase, I had a question around how to set up security on the MAC. It was easy to set up a call with Apple and get my question answered.
I think Apple's product integration, high level of consumer service and ease of use model will continue to bode well for Apple going forward.
I would agree that if Jobs were to no longer be invloved with Apple then their stock might take a hit, but i would think the level of products that Apple produced are the result of more then just one man. Though i agree Jobs was the one who came in and turned the company back around, but part of what he did was to hire on people he though could make his vision a reality.
