Michael,
I have often heard Journos talking about getting the quintessial soundbite from the Hig profile exec.
Is'nt this what that is all about here?
Sure was a good read!! If all CEOs started to speak like this, the world would be a very, very lively and fun place.ANd it would be a dream season for journos and publishers.
Regards
Ashish.

Thanks Micheal. I hope this scandal makes other publications think twice before resorting to this type of underhand methods to gather information. All this is a valuable lesson to everyone on the importance of ethical behaviour. However much you feel you are invincible you are really not untouchable.

go back ot my article/post on ethics exercises and tell me which one Murdoch is more interested in.....for him, does economics come before morals?

I don't think Rupert Murdoch is capable of empathy, which I might just point out, is one of the criteria for sociopathic behavior. Paging Casey Anthony!
What I found most bizarre was his insistence on working in his prepared lines, come hell or high water. Never mind context...
Rupert is in a zero-sum position between the criminal and the corporate: His know nothing act may work in the Parliamentary proceedings but it makes him look seriously challenged in the executive department. On the other hand, if he steps up and takes charge as CEO, he risks exposing his green, alien blood and lack of beating heart.
Of course, at the end of the day...the stock WAS up 5%. In Rupertworld, that may be all that matters!
Michael,
Ah yes -- empathy for the vicitms. Grand idea!
Is empathy something Rupert is capable of? Might be an alien concept...

This just in...Rupert Murdoch getting lessons on courtroom demeanor from Casey Anthony. Look for the first tell-all tale from Ms. Anthony in a future News Corp. publication....
Murdoch needed to show signs of life; he was the eptiome of a door mat up until recently. Edelman has its hands full; he needs to show some life to the people who were affected; don't know if the PR team has this on its plate or not, but he needs to personalize his responses in much the same way that BP attempted to do it. Granted, it took a while for them to get it right, but they got there.
What else do y'all think?
Sorry for the delay in getting back to everyone; have been in meetings for the last 11 hours. YIPPEE! I heard bits and pieces about MurdochMania; interesting YouTube clip about him getting bum-rushed by an "adoring fan." Still, I got around to thinking what Murdoch would have said at our conference:
IU: "Well, look who's here! Rupert Murdoch?!?!? You definitely made news of the world this week, haven't you?"
RM: "Bite me."
IU: "We would rather not. How is it going with Edelman working as your PR counsel?"
RM: "Absolutely brilliant. I know there will be a lot of bumps and bruises that I will take, but we had a great idea in a brainstorm--what if we could deflect the brunt of the news to the whistleblower who called us out to begin with? Great idea, we thought, we now need to think of some way to get him out of the picture. Maybe we can call Scotland Yard for some help with this, too?"
IU: "Uh, Mr. Murdoch, you heard the whistleblower died mysteriously today?"
RM: "Really? I had no idea..."
Who wants to add more to the script?

I know this is satire but Michael brings a new meaning to the term "Truth in Jest."
I think the conversation vividly captured the attitude if not the exact words of the exec.
#Tenacious--
I say! Veddy, veddy amusing, old chap!
I think he's vacillating between "I told you we should have paid people more to keep quiet" and "I can't get this shaving cream out of my ear."
