That's right, we also have the northern lights and 16-hour summer days.

But then there's winter. That's another story. You have to focus on the skiing and ignore those mornings when it's 10 below.

Scott--

I agree that what's on the ground in Bozeman looks pretty tempting, but I just wanted to add something about Montana that very few "city slickers" can appreciate, and that's the view of the night sky.

Looking up and being able to see not only the usual constellations, but the Milky Way is something that is practically beyond words and really puts 500-point drops in the Dow into perspective!

Any of you interested in Bozeman, MT, this is what you get for your money: walk to town, less than 1/2 mile from the university, college town of 50,000:

I used to think there were two coasts with nothing in between. I don't anymore. I think watching the world unravel has made me appreciate a lot of the simplier things I took for granted before.

I am not surprised to see SF, and San Jose on the list, but Truckee is a surprise to me, I know it is close to the Ski resort & Lake Taheo. But it is really a rural area. Living cost shall not be that high.

TelecomFreq,

Montana is enjoying a pretty good economy (all things considered). Has the benefits of natural resources, a state budget surplus (really!), and one of the lowest foreclosure rates in the country. Apparently MT banks are famously conservative and didn't get as burned by the housing bubble.

I hope that Montana will continue to grow at a steady pace but not too fast, the reason many of us are here is for the natural beauty and to get away from the traffic jams.

If you want to check out an interesting tech company or you know somebody looking for a job look at Right Now Technologies (RNOW), they are here in Bozeman and they are hiring like mad and having success drawing Calif. tech types who want a better quality of life.

here's the link:
