Sorry Mr. President the housing market is not going to recover until we get Americans employed—we could have zero interest rates and it will not stimulate the market until people have stable incomes and can acquire loans. It’s a classic case of chicken and egg that
I wonder when these programs are being developed whether anyone actually takes the time to consider 1) who are we trying to help? 2) how can we help them and 3) how can we make this help as inclusive as possible?

It's hard to wrap your head around the number of redundant and questionable government programs that exist. And I agree with you: too much help is as bad as no help because it destroys personal initiative and the desire (obligation) to succeed.
driven,
For example, the social assistance programs that are 'created' doing redundant things for less fortunate communities. I read an article that approximately $2-3M is wasted each year in New York due to the existence of these programs that do the same thing with essentially the same name.
As an example, if you consider non-profit, non-government organizations in most areas in the U.S. If they were to provide the same services and try to get funding from the government as such, they would get denied. But with the backing of interest groups and cronies, more $$ each year is essentially wasted by politicians in doing the same work (which everyone will always back in the name of charity).

Phil, can you elaborate on the latter statement? What counter-productive things do you think politicians do in the name of helping the less fortunate? I don't necessarily disagree, I'd just like a little more information.
I'm going to play devil's advocate and play the fence at the same time. The goverment doesn't ONLY help those on Wall Street, they simply make it easier for them to succeed with their confusing policies and lack of true transparency & oversight. But at the same time, they also do counter-productive things that slowly kill the economy in the hopes of doing good for the less fortunate members of our society.
I just got around to reading this comment thread this morning and I must say that the cynicism and gallows humor in it is breathtaking. And 100% justified and correct.
I have nothing to add except a small question: Is there any room in the foxhole for ME???

LOL.
Tenacious, that's a good one. The government only helps those greedy people on the wall street, The FED sends tax money to these people as bonus, because they crashed our country's economy, and forced millions of people default or losing their houses.

Of course you aren't. Because you're a productive, working person who deserves a break. Why would your government help you?

Our mothers were right: "Fair" is only a description for a place where you play games and eat cotton candy, It's not something we should expect from life.
@Noreen, well said. This quote perfectly summarises the situation. I feel people should protest to this plan if they feel they are not getting fair deal.
