The problem with statistics is that they lag reality.
@John I agree with you. To add to your observation, making sense of statistics is always tricky. Its always hides more than what it reveals.

I hate 5-game series. That is usualy when the better teams get picked off,
Oh, by the way the Red Sox fired the best manager they ever had. It wash't his fault the players choked.
Every business transaction is all or in part a "confidence" game. As for "consumer", I seem to remember hearing there's one born every minute.

Game 1 ppd. Disappointing.
I'm hoping the Tigers can figure out a way Verlander can pitch in five games.

Scott,
No No. Although i am a little weary of the Tiger's, the Yanks should still take care of business (I hope....)

The Conference Board cannot begin to track the level of Consumer Despair.
I see many of those same burned out people you mentioned in your article. Some are even talking about moving to other countries to find work. People need actual goals to work toward and right now there aren't many opportunities to hitch ones star to.
What' s that?!? I think we lost that about 2 years ago

Street Smart, our economy IS built on false pretenses. Those being that it's based on consumer spending driven by debt. 10-20 years ago, some jacka$$es my say that that was sustainable, but I think we realize now that debt on top of more debt is not sustainable and that eventually everyone--even governments--has to pay the piper. Hence, we need to get away from the consumer confidence as thermostat, and eventually away from a consumption-driven economy.

Red Sox and Atlanta Braves players looked like they were waiting for somehting bad to happen. I see that in a lot of people's eyes these days.
