Compelling article, especially for someone who's read the previous IU pieces you refer to. And the real-world economy feels like we've never left the recession, so most commentors will agree with your double-dip conclusion.

The only data that doesn't seem to fit the pattern is employment. In a recession, people get laid-off. Instead, unemployment - even though it's still high - has been slowly coming down.

High unemployment rate is one of major reasons we may get into another recession. The unemployment rate is not that scientific, it's just a survey. So we can't rely on one month or quarter data. And usually the data will be revised (either down or up) several months later. But this data in long term is a good indicator for general economic situtation. Most analyzers agree this high unemployment will stay with us for a long time (like several years, if not 10 years). So one set of data doesn't mean too much.

I have no doubt that we are heading to another recession (either a double dip or two recessions). What I am wondering is which stage we are in this. Will we see a (or several) meaningful rallies in the next seveal months?

Scott, if the situation continues to deteriorate, do you foresee a real breakdown in the streets -- anything like the rioting abroad during the summer? I'm starting to feel frustration fester to anger, and that concerns me (especially when I'm riding the subway).

Absolutely, just know that I've befriended a family of bears that protect me and my crop fields from any predators, like lions and ostriches. So if you have anything against bears, it might not be the place for you.

Hmmm. Bargain Bin, is it the bears or you that potential tag-alongs should fear?

Testing the 2011 lows. Market does not feel good at all. Most distrubing is the meltdown in the financial stocks.

Testing the 2011 lows.

@Scott, any chance market will test 2008 lows or is it the right time to start buying the stocks ?
