One thing I have noticed in my own job search is that companies are hiring for positions that they are paying less for today than they have in the past.

@PAW your observation is right. This is what happens when the demand outgrows supply. Companies are using recession as an excuse to pay their employees less.

So everyone needs to keep up with the times.

@ProfR, you are absolutely right. We need to keep up with the times. I think occasionally every person should analyse his/her skill and strengths. If needed we need to upgrade our skills to keep up with the times.

@Sherri thanks for the post. After reading your post I felt pretty optimistic :). Any reason why we are so many openings in technology sector ? Is it because technology sector is evolving so fastly or is it temporary phenomenon ?

@PredictableChaos

That's really interesting. Thanks for sharing. I just can't see myself switching to Sprint, though.

Dex, I agree that Science, Math, Computer Science seem to be key areas people in college should pursue. However, this also applies to people who have been in the workforce for a while.

I was just at a seminar that was about teaching magazine print designers to do design differently for emagazines. They need to understand some computer applications to do their job. So everyone needs to keep up with the times.

It is good to hear that some companies are hiring.  One thing I have noticed in my own job search is that companies are hiring for positions that they are paying less for today than they have in the past.

Artistic, or creative people, seem to be highly valued in a lot of industries these days, even in scientific fields.

Well Apple is apparently not hiring anyone to make iPhone 5s. I waited all day to hear about the new phones. And Apple gave me nothing! The long awaited news conference about the iPhone 5 release turned out to be news about the iPhone 4S.

Who wants that? What's the deal here Apple? I know...it's not a job, it's a calling. Well try calling me. On the iPhone 5 I cannot buy.

Even with the death of the KSAs, I find the federal hiring process cumbersome and restrictive to the point that it chokes out viable candidates who have too much on their minds to get caught in a web of digital paperwork.
