Pity the shops, as they are trying to tempt customers into buying more by putting Christmas decorations two months early. They don’t really understand how the people are currently living in this recession. We want to buy but the means are drained at the moment. Window shopping probably hurts more than anything for most Americans.
They roll out the decorations incredibly early, but I'm always forced to wait on the egg nog.

You must be kidding. Christmas up in September, it's too hot for that! Since the general economica situation is not great, people might to choose spritial celebration for the holiday.

Having had an extremely difficult year financially, I see the decorations and feel dread. All this holiday cheer just reminds me how bad off some Americans are.

You are lucky my retailers locally had Christmas up in September—now I am basically numb. I don’t think all the displays will overcome the reality of devalued homes, poor job prospects, rising food costs and fuel costs. It will not be a good holiday season unless people decide to let loose with their credit cards, most people are playing it very conservative this season. Upside the sales should be good in January!

The retailer, Nordstrom's, traditionally does not put up holiday decorations until the day after Thanksgiving. I appreciate that!

Retailers can start the holiday as early as they want but it doesn't change the fact that many do not have money to spend.
Just one more reason for Christmas shopping over the internet - you can choose your own soundtrack.
I expect more purchases moves this way again this year. Brick and Mortar shopping continues a slow decline as a % of total spending.
I've always put this Christmas Creep into the category of Too Much of a Good Thing. I mean... cheese in the crust... really? Just make a better basic pizza instead!
I like to make things better too and a bit more Christmas sounds like a good idea but we need to have boundaries. Otherwise, we crowd out Thanksgiving which is, arguably, a more uniting holiday because it is based less on religious principles.
