Fake trees

It will just make artificial trees more cost effective and since most of those are imported, we are helping our trade partners at the expense of domestic growers. Good plan.

I agree! This is ridiculous.  Doesn't the government have better things to worry about?

@Drivewaygirl, Government has so many things to worry about, but all those things are so complex that government decided to do silly things instead.

Noreen to think the President is even spending time on discussing this is scary. With everything going on abroad and in our own country it’s ridiculous. For my two cents many people don’t want to pay $50 every year for the charm of tree that will leave a mess in their house and flare up their allergies. Very nice artificial trees pre-lit are a great value at any retailer. In this economy people are not interested in throwing away their hard earned cash or 15 cents to save the Christmas tree industry

Well folks, those of you who read this early today should know Obama has bowed to pressure and delayed implementation of the fee. We've updated the story to reflect the change of plans. But it still leaves the big question open: Why should the federal government have a role in product promotion anyway?

Yes, this is so silly. If some Christmas tree association wants to do ads that is fine but the government should not be a party to this.

What about used cars?

So, by the same (ridiculous) logic, we should have a similar program for used cars.

Used cars have an image problem.  Used car dealers have an annoying tendency to act like competitors, and therefore are unable to pool their marketing dollars to improve the overall image of their product.

Th same group that came up with Cash-for-Clunkers should implement a $15 fee on every used car.  And the government, with all the discipline they bring to spending your money; would use the funds to promote the used car industry.

Who's on-board?
