Maybe the big thing is that amusement parks make us feel safe and secure in spite of what seems to be really scary stuff--and that's sort of comforting given the state of the world.

I wonder how successful some of those really old fashioned type parks actually are--you know, those small, less expensive ones with the rides that are just pleasant rather than terrifying.

Despite their high admission fees, their elaborate rides and the annoying waits to get on rides, amusement parks retain a psychological connection with simple pleasure and good old fashioned fun. Perhaps that's what people are longing to recreate in these very uncertain times.

I agree that a day at the park can be expensive, but it's nothing compared to the cost of airfare, hotel and all the incidental expenses of a regulr vacation.

"Cheap" is surely a matter of perception.

Last time I took four kids to a theme park the gas, tickets, rides, games and food came up to a $300 day. Not exactly an inexpensive afternoon for many of us.

The numbers may be counter intuitive to some, but they don't lie. Numbers are up and profits are up. I think the economy has started a slow improvement and that should push these numbers even higher. All the entertainment companies that held on should be rewarded. Good call.
