It's interesting to scroll through these photos from the event and see the intensity, confusio n, anxiety, fear and other emotions on the faces of both the job seekers and the company representatives.

I was just mentioning this to a college age student yesterday. I suggested he take a look at the positions available at these companies to get a better idea of what employers perceive as marketable skills.

Also, this should help people in college decide on careers. You can see a lot of these jobs are more technical (ruby on rails developers, website developers, designers, etc.).

The human aspect is definitely reassuring. Obviously, you can make a much clearer impression face to face than you can via e-mails.
Small businesses are what makes this country go! I am thrilled to see that there are still businesses that are thriving in this economy.

Yes, small businesses are the backbone of the economy. So, this is where the government should look for jobs growth. Often small businesses are drowned by regulation. The government should look at fixing this and other areas that need fixed for these firms to grow.

LinkedIn poses the same risk and difficulties as more traditional means in that it's best for employers if they already know a candidate through other places, or know someone well who knows that candidate. Once you get into knowing somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody, good luck.

Job fairs continue to exist because they do serve a useful purpose. My complaint is just that they never seemed to work really well and haven't improved since Pong and the Commadore 64. My take-away image from the blog is a 1970's style job fair for 2020 companies.
Of the companies mentioned in the blog, Art.sy raises my interest. If they can do for visual art what Pandora does for music; I'm in favor. Just like a job fair, bringing art and art-lovers together relies far too much on chance meetings.

The one good thing about job fairs is the ability to look someone in the eye. It's helpful to see 1) that my resume is actually getting into someone's hands and 2) there is or is not a connection worth pursuing.

Job fairs seem so inefficient
We've probably all had the same experience - as applicants, we scatter resumes all around and often come away feeling a lack of love. Or, as employers, (as mentioned in the blog) we find it hugely time-consuming to find the 'right' employees.
The fact that this still hasn't changed; means that LinkedIn and other sites continue to have a lot of unrealized potential.
