There is something to be said for "relaxed dress codes." Do you really think better if you're wearing a tie? Or do clients care as long as the person is clean, neat and keeps his pants up enough to cover his underwear?

Don't know about their skill sets, but the job fair attendees sure LOOK the part! Didn't see any hoodies, though.  In Silicon Valley, I hear that they're still de rigueur. Maybe we're evolving our own "East Coast Engineer" interview look here!

I was so surprised by the number of startups (and the funding they are getting) that I put together a second post. Take a look at 'Digital Momentum' Grows in NYC

There are investors out there -- and they're taking a chance on potentially good ideas.

I see the fact that startups are looking for people to be very positive. It means they have gotten seed money ( or more) and are launching. This is the real engine fo job growth. I think most of these small companies have a lot to learn on how to attract good employees, but as you can see, many are inventive. On the whole, a real good piece of news.

Such a dilemna for jobseekers. Do I want to work in wine, art, fashion, financial services or porn? Or am I just attracted to the promise of either a bird or free beer?

The photos with this post give a nice sense of place that tells a lot about the mood of all of those involved. Actually gives me a little hope for the economy.

I was a bit perplexed by that too. I understand the hope to convey a friendly business atmosphere but this makes me wonder where the priority lies -- and whether the company has long term survival potential. But then again, there's Groupon...
