I feel like I should immediately go out and gain expertise in web development and engineering skills. Maybe the lack of these skills explains the disconnect between high unemployment and vacant jobs.

Just when I'm about to forget exactly how big NYC is, something reminds me. The city is a great market for almost anything, though, so I shouldn't be surprised that so many start ups are popping up.

Dex, quite a few have been acquired by public companies in the past few years.



Thompson Reuters has made 59 acquistions, including Pangea3 – $95 million – 11/18/2010 and Hugin Group – $60M – 09/21/2009

Google made 58, including ITA Software – $700M – 06/01/2010, AdMob – $675M– 11/09/2009 - Admeld – $400M – 06/13/2011 and Invite Media - $75M – 06/02/2010
Publicis Groupe, IBM and OmnicomGroup also aquired quite a few.
