I believe all the proper studies will be done, but as with anything in US business, it will done way after the fact. It is the style of US capitalists to shoot first and ask questions later in any pursuit that involves the opportunity to make a boatload of cash. This is already the case with fracking. The business is already entrenched. For instance, in western Pennsylvania, it's not a question of stopping the practice (unlike in NY) but a question of whether or not the state can tax it, and how much. After that is solved, then maybe, just maybe, we'll have serious scientific answers as to the side effects.

I agree there are a lot of unknown factors with fracking, I would like to see some more research done, and steps taken by companies who use fracking to ensure that it is safer for both the water quality and the to ensure that it is not done by the faults.

I think for the reasons you outline, we should be cautious until we can accuratley know if this is causing a problem.
