Absolutely. We're also realists. We know there are problems with the system but we also know that by understanding those problems we can both protect ourselves and potentially effect change.

One way or another, we'll get by. We're survivors, right?

Noreen, thanks for the upbeat post. Here's to next year. At least it can't be worse than 2011 ... or can it?!

I second @cat tail's observation!  I have so enjoyed our virtual community here at IU.  A toast of thanks for our collective wisdom--or attempts at it anyway--and everyone's unfailing generosity in sharing it!

I'm thankful certainly for my friends and family. But I'm also thankful for the insights and information I'm gaining from my virtual friends on IU. Thank you all!

It is nice to hear that even under difficult economic conditions people still value helping others and the spirit of the holiday. It is by standing up together that we will be able to make a better future for everyone. Most of the economic problems were caused by poor values and business ethics. So hopefully people think about what is right or wrong at least during this holiday and resolve to do the right thing by everyone.

Yes, today is a day to be thankful, but many businesses are open. I think now a day’s businesses just use celebrations to promote themselves.
