I cannot support these early store openings on Black Friday. People will line up at 6AM or 8AM as willingly as they line up at midnight. I think it's odd that retailers claim the early start is designed to meet consumer demand. It's just a warped marketing ploy.
I'm amazed by the National Retail Federation's claim that Black Friday sales jumped 7%. While it's good for the economy. it still says something discouraging about our culture -- people were willing to give up time with family and friends to go shopping after dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

Thounsands of Canadians crossed the border to the US and tried to find bargains on black Friday. It's reported there was a several hours waiting line to just clear the boarder. I never understand this kind of hype. But if people enjoy all this, that's fine. That's the thing they can be thankful for.
But for my family and most of my friends, we prefer to spend the time to do other activities.
Still no matter what we do, I'm always thankful for the chance to enjoy what we are doing in a peaceful way.
Hope everyone had a wonderful and peaceful thanksgiving.

That sounds like an American tradition in the making!
Watching the crowd at Wal-marrt compete for the $2 waffle-maker reminds me why i don't shop much on Black Friday.
instead, we spent a day at the other zoo. You know, the one with 'lions and tigers and bears'. Real animals.
We watched the cheetahs during feeding time and the zoo keepers explained that regardless of how long they've been in captivity, cheetahs are still wild animals. I'm sure they're right, but wild cheetahs pouncing on lunch looked tamer than the people pouncing on $2 waffle makers.
Say thanks and then fist fight with fellow shoppers for discount electronics?
Weigh in!

Every time I think I have it bad I remember the poor farmers. What a hard life with so many unpredictable events to handle. I'm thankful they endure so much so we can have such abundance of food products.
Thanks
