Happy thanks giving

Wish you a happy thanks giving too. You are right we really have to be thankful that at least we are still able to survive despite everything. We still manage to fulfill our basic human needs whereas so many in the world are not able to do it. We also have more free time to spend with our family and friends now. The calls that used to come right at dinner time would not be coming this year because you no longer hold that demanding job. It is the time to build relationships after all the value of a good relationship is much more than you can ever earn.
A Community Thanksgiving

My younger son is taking a Photojournalism course in college this semester and for his final project he decided to cover the making of our church's annual Thanksgiving feast for the less fortunate. It's an enormous two-day undertaking held in the Bronx section of New York City--1,000 volunteers, 200 turkeys, and mountains of side dishes--all going to serve 700 guests of the POTS (Part of the Solution) shelter over a three-hour period.
Our family helps with clean-up each year, but this was the first time I had followed the entire process through from beginning to end. It was amazing to behold! The spirit of community between the volunteers and the guests being served will stay with me throughout the holiday season. It underscored that no matter what our economic circumstances, we truly are all in this together!

Yes, today is a day to be thankful, but many businesses are open. I think now a day’s businesses just use celebrations to promote themselves.

It is nice to hear that even under difficult economic conditions people still value helping others and the spirit of the holiday. It is by standing up together that we will be able to make a better future for everyone. Most of the economic problems were caused by poor values and business ethics. So hopefully people think about what is right or wrong at least during this holiday and resolve to do the right thing by everyone.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day -- and lets keep our fingers crossed for an even brighter year ahead.

I'm thankful certainly for my friends and family. But I'm also thankful for the insights and information I'm gaining from my virtual friends on IU. Thank you all!
I second @cat tail's observation! I have so enjoyed our virtual community here at IU. A toast of thanks for our collective wisdom--or attempts at it anyway--and everyone's unfailing generosity in sharing it!

Noreen, thanks for the upbeat post. Here's to next year. At least it can't be worse than 2011 ... or can it?!
