Heinrich,

You forgot Illegal Immigrants and their assorted Subsidies...

But,Yeah Department of Prisons for sure is a massive employer;untill you see a stage where States start letting Prisoners go(to save Costs) as in Michigan.

Even with California,I won't be surprised if California also decides on the same rules of the game(releasing all but the most serious offenders) looking at how bankrupt California really is today. At the same time comparing taxes in California with those in Nevada,New Mexico and Arizona I am amazed that we see so many quality Techie jobs still in California.Companies could very, very easily save a decent bundle by making the move(and I am quite sure you will see things moving in this very direction very soon).

Once that happens, budgetary realities will force a total collapse of California ala Michigan and especially the mess known today as Detriot....

Regards

Ashish.

While jobs may have been added there is also a large pool of individuals that are underemployed that are not accounted in these statistics. If individuals are underemployed they are out of the numbers but far from being back in the economy the way they were when they were fully employed.

Cars are not so much of a growth business as the California correctional system, which grew from 6% of the state budget in 2004 ($6.3 billion) a couple of percentage points to $9 billion in 2011.  Also outlays to the Office of Homeland Security, Office of Emergency Services and support for the Department of Justice is well into the hundreds of millions.  Those expenditures don't make it onto the pie charts, but clearly that's where the money is.

Yeah, I was kind of joking. You would think that cars in California would always be a growth business. But if you know that cars and freeways start shrinking in California we are definitely nearing the end.

Scott,

Lets see,We Eliminiate the Department of Labor,The Department of Education and The Department of Housing.

Problem is who/what is going to hire those unemployable flunkies in these departments who respond only to the call of the Overarching State.

And then what happens?Social chaos/anarchy???

Ashish.

Noreen,

Precisely what I said.

Today its close to impossible for a Dual Family Income to survive on a Single Income.

There are two main reasons for that-One is the cost of Living ,which is constantly going up and up and up.

The other is that families still don't know/understand how to downsize/cut expenses and waste.

A Dollar saved (from expenses) is about Two Dollars earned in Today's environment(where its very, very difficult to get a raise today).

Ashish.

Ha -- it would be a scary day indeed when we see combatting enemployment figures for the Dept. of Labor and the CIA.

Now, come to think of it, if the CIA has this capability, can't we just eliminate the Dept. of Labor?

“The Labor Department's November jobs report was 120,000 jobs were added”

We had not seen such reports in any of the main stream daily or news bulletins. You have any idea in which sector they had created so much job opportunities, during these economic slowdown time.  If they had done it really, it’s very much appreciable.
