That $2 fee was ridiculous. And how dumb did Verizon think its customers are? The company apparently introduced it over the holidays because they thought no one would have time to talk/complain about it!

Ah, always a skeptic, @erierunner. Maybe a big company just wants to do something nice for its customers. Or maybe it was going to subsidize it with that now cancelled $2 monthly fee it was going to charge people to pay their bills online or by phone!

It sounds like an incredible offer but I have to wonder what the contract terms and go-to price is.  It's like Direct offering free NFL ticket this year to new subscribers but the fine print is with a two year contract and next year the price is around $40 a month for the ticket.  It's a nice ploy to get the phone calls in but a lot of people are going to be trying to get out of it once their bill shoots up.

VERY interesting about the Verizon triple play, @Noreen.  Of course I live in one of only a handful of suburban communities that does NOT offer Fios TV, but I have all the OTHER parts!  I'll keep an eye on this...

Verizon is partnering with Xbox to bring even more utility to the console:

Microsoft announced back in October that it would be bringing live FiOS TV channels to the Xbox 360 (along with some offerings from Comcast), and Verizon has now finally filled in most of the specifics. As expected, you'll need both FiOS TV and internet, plus an Xbox Live Gold membership to access the "select" live channels (up to 26 depending on your TV package), but Verizon is making a special offer available to coincide with the launch. You can get its FiOS Triple Play package including FiOS internet, TV and phone, plus a year of Xbox Live Gold for $89.99 a month if you sign up before January 21st, and Verizon will also throw in the new anniversary edition of Halo. What's more, Verizon has also confirmed that the new service will make use of Kinect voice and gesture controls, and it's accepting orders for the new bundle package right now -- the service itself will be available next month.

I agree with you @tokyogai that console share will suffer because the smartphone and console gaming markets are apples and oranges when it comes to game cost. XBox 360 games can easily run $60-75.  Smartphone apps are what...a few dollars at most?

I think that smartphone games will certainly effect the market share of some of the portable devices and that may kill some of them. The dedicated device market will still exist, but I think it will be much smaller over time.

Microsoft has done a good job at morphing XBox into an all-purpose Internet devices. It plays games, you can play games online, you can use it to stream Internet content.

Crazy seems a little harsh. Perhaps saying hard core gamers is more appropriate when it comes to continuing console use.

Joey, you are right. Most of the smartphones are coming up with new and advance games. Since the smartphones are equipped with better and latest hardware and ram, it can support graphics and games. So I think other than crazy peoples, nobody is going to opt for dedicated game boxes or play stations.
