Rod, any thoughts on Amylin Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: AMLN) ,which just ended a 10 year partnership with Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) for the diabetes/weight loss drug exenatide? Amylin will continue work on exenatide alone.
150 million people in the US are obese, but weight loss drugs have been a disappointing area due to side effects.
The CDC says Diabetes costs $174B each year. The market for diabetes drugs is currently over $15B and the "holy grail" is a product to replce daily insulin injections.

Well I'm glad to see the building is being repurposed -- good sign for the commercial real estate market in NY.
Two years. It was formerly occupied by Malcolm Pirnie, an environmental consulting firm. .

that's interesting Noreen, given how CRE is still soft. Had the building been vacant long?
Biotech is showing lots of growth. Just this week, a biotech firm closed on the purchase of a vacant 118,000 Sq. Ft. office building in White Plains, NY -- the county's largest office sale of the year.
HistoGenetics, a biotechnology company which specializes in molecular tissue typing services, plans to develop a major research and development facility and provides hospitals and transplant centers with rapid DNA sequence-based tissue typing. The firm is moving from Ossining, NY, about 20 miles north of White Plains.

The demand is growing for sure. Also it's about time that some significant breakthorugh will happen soon in this field. I was told quite many new or start-ups look really promising. Of course those big ones are also making significant progress. So some people predict that we are entering Biotech innovation age in the next couple of years.
I myself start to invest into this field gradually.

The data you have provided made me want to take a closer look at Biotech related investments. I have always felt that the industry is generally very volatile. It is very unpredictable when it comes to how successful its drug development and testing goes. But after your reasoning I feel this is an area which offers some good opportunities if pick out the right companies to invest in.

Rod, I think when compare with equity investment in banking or IT or real-estate sector, investments in biotechnology sector is considerably good. In other words we can say that from biotechnology sectors returns are promising atleast for the next 5 years.
