@driven and @Noreen,

Agree with you guys the journey is not easy. But still it's the most likely path to the innovation. And I like this "Contrary to what you may think, corporations don't always embrace innovation. In fact, many companies do just the opposite: going out of their way to quash inventions and block innovation." This explains why we can't expect innovation from big companies. We shall not expect too much innovation from Google or Apple down the road. They are just too successful, why they want innovation (hard work, agile and uncertainty)? But you can some people are doing new things. Like this one from CES:

And to travel that road you need patience, tenacity, a tough skin and gobs of money.

Just remember, it's a long and hard road from that garage to the marketplace, covered with pitfalls -- including lawyers and competitors that want to kill the innovation.

Fingers crossed that as we speak, somebody is tinkering in a garage somewhere...and NOT building a bomb!

Don't get me wrong.  I'm a huge fan of social media, and I would say that the technology has led to SOCIAL transformation, especially in terms of the Arab Spring.

I just don't think, to use @Noreen's inspired "better phone book" example, that we're talking a technological paradigm shift, even with Facebook.

But like Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart with porn, we will know it when we see it when that paradigm shift comes, and it can't come soon enough to jump start our moribund economy.

Fingers crossed that as we speak, somebody is tinkering in a garage somewhere...and NOT building a bomb!

I liked the ease and simple interface of Picnik. Yes, it is annoying to see Google pull a useful product. And why?

Ha ha, Noreen. But basically true.

Making information easier to find may be smart. It may be creative. But innovative? Not so sure.

I do think that social media speeds up the transmission and potential to analytically process information.

Does everybody actually do that or do they use it to waste time? User's choice, I guess.

One great example I can think of is that if you want to find a bunch of people in a specific technology area on LinkedIn, it's much easier than it was before.
