That's interesting. Do they just monitor any random person, or do they have some way to focus on the social media of investors?

Before I joined IU, I never knew how many different things supposedly correlate with the state of the market.

@Bargain Bin, very true. It's interesting to see how politics, sports influence the mood of the investor. If we can guage the mood of the investors we can do better investment decision and the best way to guauge the mood is through social media. Infact funds like  U.K.-based company Derwent Capital has bought new fund which takes investment decision by analyzing random tweets to gauge specific market moods.

Before I joined IU, I never knew how many different things supposedly correlate with the state of the market. Superbowl, presidential popularity, butter.....its like a whole new world out there. This correlation certainly seems more legitmate than some of the others though.

I think you are right - the government should stay out of the market. However, if there is a way to manipulate this market to benefit some politicians, I would think some representatives and senators who get booted out during mid term elections would not be happy with this.

I think we're better off when they stay out of the market!

Yes, this is interesting to see. However, if it is that easy to get the market up, why not do this all the time?

It shouldn't be surprising that politics plays such a key role, but it's still eye opening to see it spelled out like this.
