I take Glucosamine every day to oil my joints. I'm sure they're about to come out with some study that says my legs will shortly fall off..

Snarky but informational and balanced article in the NY Times this morning about how enzymes are now ALL THE RAGE!  Vitamins are so 5 minutes ago!  (PLEASE don't tell my dog...)

Some regulation would be good because some supplements are as dangerous as prescription or over the counter drugs and come with now warnings or caveats. The question is the FDA is having such a hard time regulating their current boy of responsibility as noted by all the food borne illness in this country how will they take this on and be effective?

I think the average American has this perception that the FDA is protecting them, and that all their prescriptions are manufactured with strict oversight. As I understand it though, there is minimal oversight of the manufacturing facilities abroad. I recall reading that only something like 7% were inspected annually, even when the products they make are intended for US consumption.

It is not very reassuring to know that so many meds (as well as the base ingredients) are imported.

They are indeed spoiled....I was not given a cookie everytime I sat down. Instead I was hassled with vegetables.

The logic is that Broadway is right: Americans seem to love their pets more than their kids, presumably because the cats and dogs do not possess the ability to talk, ask for money or request to drive the family car.

That's more expensive than brand name human multi vitamins...what is the logic behind that?

I can only shake my head at pet supplements, as a non-pet owner. It's long been stated that Americans spend more money on their pets than on their children. It could be that Americans have more pets, or it could show our priorities. In any case, I happened to be in a big-box pet retailer the other day and coincidentally found myself in the supplement aisle, where jars of multivitamins -- specially designed to increase joint strength -- ran for $35+. As an investor, I can only nod my head at pet supplements.
