I think that a drivers license used to symbolize freedom much more than it does to the young folk of today. In the days of drive-ins and malt shops, it wasn't so easy to stay in touch with friends a few towns over. Now that we are all always connected, driving is less of a tool and more of a chore. Most kids that I know these days fall into one of two categories, either the "I can't wait to start driving" or the "I can't wait for my friend to start driving, so that they can drive me".
Well, there are apparently some differences with these 18-to-34 year olds.
Apparently, they aren't as practical as their older counterparts, according to a survey of 2,000 adults by Brodeur Partners. While price and product quality are important to boomers, Gen Y is more brand-aware and eager to share shopping discoveries with friends.
And to the Gen Y shopper, a retailer's efforts to "make me smile" are more important than they are to boomers, Brodeur reports. What do you think Joey? Does Gen Y care more about being happy than those cranky older people?

I did not get my license until I was in my mid 20s. before I ever got mine I had gone to college for a few years, had a startup with some friends. worked a few different jobs and lived in 3 different states.
people can get out of the house without having to worry about driving. I think that statistic means nothing at all.

I got mine the instant I was old enough to get a drivers license. Guess times have changed. Or could it be that the public transport system has improved? Or in a much sader note parents and kids a like no longer own cars.Or may be driving is not necessary to interact with friends, why drive when you can skype? Whatever the case things have definitely
changed.
Aw come on Joey. I understand the economics, But a driver's license? Why don't kids want to escape at least in their parents cars for a few hours? Or could it be that the parents are no longer loaning their cars, making the exercise of getting a license pointless for someone with no job and a lot of debt?
