Hmmm. I've heard rumblings of SolarWinds being acquired for a while now but no action. I wonder why?

@philtheinvestor: I think EMC could be a buyer in the analytics or security segments. Also, SolarWinds (SWI), OPNET (OPNT) or even NetScout (NTCT) would be potential targets in enterprise IT management/network performance management.

Tokyogal, I agree. EMC has both 2 critical pieces for cloud - virtualization with VMWare and high capacity storage.

It is also about the whole growth of cloud computing driving storage demand in a way that has not happened for the last few years. EMC is poised both with storgae and virtualization- that is a real winning combo.

Do you see any more partnerships or acquisitions for them by the end of this year?

EMC is a good company. They do a good job of innovating and partnering in businesses that are close to their core. They try multiple things in new industries like cloud. This allows them to try things out and then choose what works best. An example of this is partnering with cisco on VBlock in the cloud space.

They are doing business in a potential high growth area so it can be assumed that they we will continue to grow. But there seems to be a lot of competition in the data storage business so they will need to continuously innovate if they are to stay ahead.

Gaining IP and innnovation through acquisitions is not necessarily a bad thing. The decision engines continue to chrun while the branding will soon take your brand name. EMC has done a good job of this over the past 5 years. That's why thery're a leader in the enterprise storage space.
