I don't have time to be patient, much less to meditate.

Scott,

I agree.

Meditation is'nt for everybody.

You need a lot of internal patience and fortitude to do it successfully.

Scott,

I believe your wife and am not surprised its filled with Junk!!!

The idea of placing it next to the Cash register is'nt a novel one.The Legendary Sam Walton was the first one to figure out that Impulse buys make Good money(particularly in margins on the Bottomline).

I remember reading about this  in some Classic Business Book, somewhere.

The items placed next to the cash register have some of the highest margins and are often picked up as Impulse Buys at whim.

This is most definitely very good business and I would say its tough to get there but even tougher to stay there(next to the counter). He must be sharing a nice chunk of his profits with retailers who stock his product there.

What I found most innovative was the reduction in size(from 16 ounces to 4ounces);so they can be picked up at a whim(and lets face it anybody can spare 3 Bucks easily).

By avoiding Red Bull directly(smaller size, less cost) -he created a new market for his product.Think about it,Would you rather grab a red bull if you are'nt thirsty or a 4 ounce 5-hour-energy???

Smart product placement and Great marketing!

Works every single time.

Ashish.

@Noreen

LOL. I actually tried Buddhist meditation for a year. I got a nice short story out of it. I think meditation works, but it takes a huge amount of discipline (and time). You are right I don't have the patience to sit in one place for two hours. I have substituted running and cycling, which has a similar beneficial, calming effect on the mind.

Yeah, I love this guy.

Though, my wife who has some expertise in nutrition looked at the label and told me the stuff is filled with junk. I believe it. After all, the guy used to be in chemicals.

I would go a step further and say it's not just salesmanship, it's marketing. Everything is marketing. I especially like his innovation of figuring out the unique placement near the cash register.

Scott,

I honestly have'nt heard about the guy before you connected the Dots..

Fascinating story.

Shows you America is still the Land of Entrepreneurs and any smart person who knows how to Sell can make it Big here.

After all,its all about the Salesmanship.

Notice his father moved to Wharton from India to go his PHD in publishing and eventually ended up in the Plastics Business....

Some people just have Business in their DNA..

Recently I've become obsessed with the Indian monk who is now a billionaire because of the ubiquitous 5-hour energy...

I need to figure out how to become a billionaire in five years through a tiny 4-oz bottle.

Broadway,

I could not find the numbers on Energy Drinks very easily but I found some very interesting numbers on Beer.

Beer consumption in America is tanking!

See the below article for most details.

http://www.testosteronepit.com/home/2012/3/28/the-beer-war-on-american-soil.html

They say its because of increased competition from Wine as well as changing Demographics(& increased unemployment)-Think about it,the Over 55 crowd will obviously drink less than the under 40 crowd.

However, amongst the young what I am personally seeing is a decline in consumption & Interest in Beer. They either want the hard stuff(Liquor) or abstain from Alcohol also completely.

Its a secular change away from Beer if you ask me.
