I feel like they all go through the same obstacle course, relatively speaking, before they can make it to their present roles. So one way or another, they will be 'influenced' by non-ideal forces. But it can't hurt to try...

My personal favorte stimulus waste was the creation of vast numbers of US Census partnership jobs -- that paid $70,000 a year.

You would have thought some of the stimulus money would have been used for necessary infrastructure. Instead, it was used on random things with little lasting value, They should have just sent every American a bigger check. What did we get? A few hundred dollars?

But some different faces without all the baggage might make a difference. I think we have people in the offices that are too entrenched in the system as it is.

I feel like that's part of the problem when it comes to the public judging politics. When we say "put some people in", that would assume that there's a separate, uninfluenced group of people that is capable of doing a better job. In the rise to becoming a successful politician, they all have to make it through the same machine, or system. The machine is the problem, not necessarily the people within it.

Unfortunately, in this politically-charged climate, despite the numerous reports of the urgent need for higher funding for infrastructure repair, their calls seem to be falling on deaf ears in Washington D.C. The best we can hope for it seems is the Senate plan to keep funding the same for two years.

Do you think that more action and lobbying could be done to pursuade politicians to take positive decisions in a more speedy manner? What more can organisations like ARTBA and the Associated general contractors association do?

Interesting how Congress is always whining and crying about the need to stimulate the economy and create jobs, and then they fail to act on the most obvious solution.

It is really disappointing to know that even though they know what needs to be done they continue to do nothing about it. A well maintained transportation system is almost a must for economic success. I hope they come to an agreement before time runs out again.

Wow- a Congress that can't get anything done, much less something they agree on. I think these guys are their own worst enemies. Somehow we need to get this bunch of clowns out and put some people in who can actually do their jobs.
