All this pit bull talk got me thinking about the breed. Here's some interesting stuff.
The American pit bull was used as a symbol to represent the US in WW1. In fact, Stubby, an pit bull, became a decorated war hero in WWI.

If there is one good thing coming from this sad event it's an increased awareness of the horrible practices of dogfighting.
Many thanks to IU for having enough range and depth to cover these issues.

The pit bull training involves practices that can barely be mentioned. One is o take the runt of every pit bull litter and feed it to the rest so they develop canabalistic tastes. As I said beyond all decency. The beer company is wise to distance itself from any part of the dog fighting world. As I mentioned in an earlier post they would be wise to create animal rights videos to counter the one causing the problem. Also major donations to animal rescue groups.

Maybe the better match for these fighting dogs are these Roman Galdiators, not Modern day boxers. I agree the dogs are trained to fight each other by human beasts, but I don't think anyone can train a Chiwawa into a fierce fighter.

I once spent some time at a Pit Bull Club.
The only danger from these wonderful affectionate animals was having my face licked to death.
It's not the breed - its the true beasts who train them to fight.

Its a matter of choice for humans. Many sports contain a measure of violence as part of the competition.
In his youth Nobel Prize Winner Albert Camus had been a boxer and you can add many more artists and intellectuals to that list

My dog, a rescue from Hurricane Katrina, is part pit bull. In the years since we adopted her, I have learned a great deal about what a misunderstood breed pit bulls are and how profoundly evil dog fighting is. I have become active in pit bull rescue and also work to dispell stereotypes and ignorance about these amazing dogs.

If you're like me, you won't have much of a thirst for a tall, frosty Heineken after reading it.

The bar owner only seems sorry he got caught. Doesn't seem at all sorry about holding a dog fight in his venue.
In case you are interested, here is the official response from the club owner that Heineken posted on its website today:

I find it hard to believe anyone would want to attend this kind of event, It's really disgusting because the animals are pawns for the humans who use them.
