@yaland, I am not bearish on Apple. I am bearish of Shuttleworth's new enterprise. My only concern about Apple is the company draw more than half of its profit from iPhone. And the iPhone has many drawbacks that haven't been addressed for quite long time:

1. Non replacable battery: consumer lost too much usuage on charging the battery. Things can be real ugly once LTE/4G is added on the next gen iPhone.

2. It sticks with 3.7" screen, while most competitors went with 4.3" or larger one. If you believe the small screen can win in the long run, just check the sale of Samsung Note

3. Segment the market with different storage size (16G, 32G, 64G, etc) while a 32G class 10 micro SD costs only around $20 and keeps falling, eventually, consumer will know couple of hundreds for additional storage is a ripoff.

4. Most important of all, since iPhone 4, there is nothing revolutionary coming out, while competitors are catching up quickly. Which high end smartphone does support 4G/LTE, it is unfortunately iPhone 4S.

Just my two cents;

@Tenacious,

They are an amazing little invention. I have a few I keep in my bag as well in case I need to share a large amount of data with a co-worker.

But, I think if you were using Google Docs, you would still need connectivity just to access the platform to type up a document.

I've become addicted to flash drives. Odds are I can either find connectivity or the flash drive on which I save my work.

@Dex.

The cloud is good for that, lol. I dont think anyone backs-up as much as they should so having things save to the cloud is a big bennifit.

the down side is that if you lack connectivity you can find your productivity limited if all you use is the web application.

The idea of buying a PC free of extraneous bloatware is appealing.

I was never a fan of Google docs until a recent virus mucked up my computer. Yes, I should have been backing up. No, I wasn't as frequent;y as I should. And what saved me was the fact that the word Docs automatically synced with Google docs. Now I'm wondering why I'm using word at all.

There definatly are some limitations to open office, but at the end of the day, its free. I think for the vast majority of users it will do the trick. But there are also free cloud based tools like Google Docs now, so a software solution like Office isnt as needed.

I tend to think that this will hurt windows more than Apple, but either way it should not be ignored. They have made major improvements to the Linux interface- along the lines of what Apple did with their now Unix certified Mac OSX. I think it will be harded to make money in this market, but not impossible.

Can you use it as a total substitute for windows?

@Phoenix, In my opinion you cannot totally substitue for you windows but this is the most user friendly free OS released so far. You would enjoy the Ubuntu experinece more if you are regular user of red-hat linux.
