I think that FB stock is going to be a roller coster for some time now. you have to enjoy the risk to get in at this point.

The $1B looks better as a % of total FB value - just 1%.  Hey it's tiny!

But I'm wondering if there won't come a time when FB looks back on that acquisition and wishes they hadn't been so free-wheeling with the cash.  A time when $1B will seem like a lot of money.  Maybe?

Facebook earned $1Billion in 2011 (Wow!)

Facebook paid $1Billion for Instagram (Huh?)

I'm sure these Zuckerberg and his friends are way smarter than I am, but I'm unimpressed with a decision to spend ALL of their 2011 earnings just to buy a photo editing application.  Tell me how this makes sense.

Things are really going to change for facebook. They will have to face a lot more public scrutiny and every little detail will end up being analysed. It is also likely that investors will be more profit oriented and will be disappointed if they do not get it.

I would think that being public will change things for FaceBook, I think they will need to start to squeeze profit from every spot they can or their share prices will suffer as a result.
