"Absolute Power corrupts absolutely" - First Baron John Dalberg Acton
"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power. " - Abraham Lincoln
Just a little something to ponder on.
Exactly. I agree-it's a bad cycle.
And negated the idea of personal responsibility or accountability?

Because we have created a political system that encourages the blame game and created a legal system that allows us to sue anyone else -- and force them to pay to defend themselves. It's a bad cycle.
I agree, ChapAnjou. Why is anyone else responsible for an adult's behavior?
Sovereignty subject to the caprice of the US Government....that sounds like a good situation. I think we may owe them a little more than that.

"No doubt the Indian tribes were at one time sovereign and even now the tribes are sometimes described as being sovereign. The blunt fact, however, is that an Indian tribe is sovereign to the extent that the United States permits it to be sovereign -- neither more nor less. [364 F.Supp. at 194.]"
@Noreen, Wow! That is an extremely hardline stance and shows just how far this lawsuit is going to go through the system...

"Everything I've read seems to suggest that sovereignty is an every changing concept."
@cat tail, ever changing concept indeed. If the native americans leave their land to do some alcohol purchasing, then they must now observe the rules of that particular state. It's safe to say that there are no laws against serving alcohol to native americans in their legislature hahaha.
Articles like this are so frustrating. First off, how in the world can the beer distributor be roped into this lawsuit?? When 14 yr old timmy figures out a way to buy some beer from a place supplied that the distributor...that's the fault of the store that sold the booze.
More importantly though, people are in charge of their own actions and the people doing the purchasing are the only ones to blame.

I agree- loan sharks are better lenders than these Payday guys. At least you know what you are getting into.
