Ok--Help me make sense of this.

Small businesses were more optimistic in May compared to April on plans to hire, expecting a better economy, and plans to increase inventory.

Small businesses were more pessimistic in May compared to April on expecting to raise selling prices, expecting higher sales, easing of credit conditions, and positive earnings trends.

What's your take?

My take is that things are still looking bleak, and no small business owner plans to go on a hiring frenzy
